Nosongjeong Head House was built by Toegye Yi Hwang’s grandfather Lee Gyeyang during the second year of Joseon King Danjong’s reign(year 1454). The House has been named Toegye Taesil(Placenta Chamber) after Toegye was born at the house in November, 1501.
Layout of the main building is square, centering the main garden. Toegye Taesil is unique in its Nu style construction with Gaeja-nangan(upper projecting handrail) surrounding the three inner sides of the building. Maru in the Southeast corner divides big Sarang and small Sarang. Tablet hung on top of Maru reads Oncheonjeongsa. East of the main building sits linear shape house Nosongjeong, and Sadang to its right. The main gate is Seonglimmun.
Nosongjeong Head House reflects the scholar-gentry family of Joseon era. The Chamber room is a valuable heritage to show the unique design of upper-class houses.
